Over time, sterling silver will tarnish, caused by the oxygen in the air. In my experience, the best way to keep tarnish at a minimum is to keep each piece of your jewelry in a plastic bag with a zip closure. For larger pieces, you can use zip sandwich baggies. For smaller pieces, I buy small zip baggies at the local craft/hobby store.
I personally do not recommend liquid dip for sterling silver. In my opinion, it can be too harsh for some pieces.
When you do need to clean your silver, the easiest way is with a silver polishing cloth. When you use one, remember that the cloth is for cleaning the metal – not the stones. If your piece has stones, polish the metal around them.
If your jewelry needs a deeper cleaning, another option is paste or lotion consistency polish from the grocery store, but this polish is for metal, not stones. Polish around the stones or cover them with your fingers to protect them while using the product.
We have polishing cloths are available for purchase.
